GoFundMe Page Seeks To Help Staff Of Gutted Georgetown Restaurant

An accidental fire at Wingos caused significant damage to the restaurant, and a GoFundMe has been launched to support it.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Wingos in Georgetown caught fire back on June 26, shutting down the restaurant, and today a former employee is asking for the public to help restaurant staff.

A GoFundMe page with a goal of $25,000 for Wingos employees currently has raised $1,635 as of Monday afternoon thanks to 47 donors.

"While insurance will cover damages to the building and subsequent repairs, it does not cover the wages of the 24 incredible Wingos employees," the GoFundMe page states. "Our goal here is to raise funds for rent, groceries, childcare, and other basic needs for the Wingos staff. This does not go towards the building, repairs, or the owner Mike but just to the cooks, cashiers, and delivery drivers who make Wingos the special hole-in-the-wall restaurant that DC knows and loves."

Wingos will open a new location in four weeks and they will provide work for everyone at the Georgetown location, but until then staff is on its own.

"Between now and then, your contribution will make a world of difference for the staff of this wonderful institution," states the page, which was created by Alex Sceery. "As as a former employee, I know that this is a special group of people and I thank you for your contribution from the bottom of my heart."
