Grind Session Basketball Showcase Comes to Upper Marlboro This Weekend

Some of the country's best high school basketball players are battling in Upper Marlboro this weekend.

The Grind Session, a winter circuit of elite high school basketball events featuring top prospects in the U.S and Canada, will host a three-day showcase at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School (12650 Brooke Lane, Upper Marlboro, MD) from Friday through Sunday.

To put into perspective how good the Grind Session is: the circuit has produced over 3,000 players who have gone on to play collegiate or professional basketball, including more than 20 first-round NBA draft picks. That list includes two recent NBA champions in Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum

This weekend's event will feature 12 teams from eight states and Canada; 13 games; and several of the nation's top-rated prospects, including Class of 2026 big man Marcis "Baby Shaq" Ponder of Orlando, Florida's West Oaks Academy.

The participating teams include: Accelerated Prep (CO), Balboa School (FL), Bethel Academy (VA), Bond Academy (ON, CAN), MN Prep (MN), New Hope Academy (MD), Royal Crown (ON, CAN), SFBA Trinity Prep (NV), Southeastern Prep (FL), The Patrick School (NJ), West Oaks Academy (FL), and Winston Salem Christian (NC).

"The Grind Session has taken high school basketball to new heights, becoming the home and proving ground for the nation's top prospects and teams. We're excited about bringing the action to the DC area and look forward to an exciting three days of elite prep basketball," said Grind Session co-founder and CEO Scott Waldrop. "Fans can expect fierce rivalries, incredible athleticism, and jaw-dropping plays as these young athletes put their hard work and dedication on display."

The showcase opens with three games on Friday, continues with six games on Saturday, and concludes with four games on Sunday.

Admission is $15/day. Children 6 and under are free.
