'Hamilton' Star to Teach Kids in DC This Weekend

Andrew Chappelle plays Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the current version of the Tony Award-winning play.

WASHINGTON, DC — "Hamilton" has been the biggest Broadway musical in years, and one of its stars will be in D.C. this weekend to teach kids a combo number from the show.

Andrew Chappelle, who was an understudy for original cast member Daveed Diggs for the role of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, but is now taking over the role along with Seth Stewart now that the original cast is departing, will be at the Dance Loft at 4618 14th Street NW on Sunday, Sept. 5, according to a statement from Scene 1, which hosts local workshops for actors.

The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

"We are happy to have Broadway Hamilton star Andrew Chappelle in DC teaching local students a combo number from the Tony Award winning show," the statement notes. "After the fun song/dance lesson, he will be answering questions about the historic show."

Hamilton won 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The brainchild of Lin-Manuel Miranda, it tells the story of the life of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.
