HüsBand Take Over the Pearl Street Warehouse on 11/30!

The group also releases their new album "Situation Room," this Friday...

DC-locals HüsBand play the Pearl Street Warehouse next Saturday, November 30, as they celebrate the release of their new record "Situation Room". The album will see the light of day this coming Friday, November 22.

With elements of classic rock, modern rock, alternative rock, jazz - rock, and jam rock inspirations to the mix, there is no telling what the band will come up with next in their artistic endeavors. Throughout their sound is genius and will open your eyes and ears to their world.

We had the distinct pleasure to sit down with the band as they gear up for the big show and their album release. As we dive deeper into the new record and all things surrounding, let's catch up with your up-and-coming favorite band, shall we?

1. Playing the Pearl Street Warehouse for a very special evening of music, what do you love most about playing in our city?

Washingtonians are some of the smartest and most aware people in the country. Playing for people who “get” our music and sense of humor is always a pleasure.

2. Overall, what are your favorite venues to play? Where do you connect with fans the most?

The Swedish Embassy was great fun to play and Jammin’ Java is an outstanding venue. We’ve always enjoyed the crowds and Flanagan’s Harp & Fiddle and Villain and Saint (RIP). Our annual gigs on Bethesda’s KONST rooftop are also a blast and our diehard fans always show up.

3. When creating songs, what inspirations and aspirations did you have in mind? What was the backing behind the story you wanted to portray on the new record?

The absurdity of daily life is a major lyrical inspiration. The current administration motivates expression, because it’s healthier than beating your head against a wall.

4. On a personal note, which song that you've written would you say is your favorite, or the one that speaks the most to you?

We’re proud of our whole new album, but I think “Good Editor” may be a favorite. It blends both humor and serious observation and builds to a musical catharsis.

5. On the new songs, who are the key players that made the record happen?

The band consists of Michael Kerwin on vocals and bass, Jonas Carnemark on guitar and backing vocals, Amit Chatterjie on Keyboards, and Jim Sullivan on drums and percussion. The songs are very much a joint effort. Mike writes all of the lyrics but the music is created via group experimentation and interplay. Each member brings diverse influences from pop to rock to jazz and prog.

6. Do you self-produce or use an outside studio? Can you walk us through the process of either?

Our new record was self-produced at the KONSTmusik studio. Jonas served as both our engineer, producer and he mixed the album. Scott Hull of MasterDisk mastered the album for both digital and our vinyl release. Self-production allowed for a lot of experimentation and pursuit of fun ideas like the backing vocals on “Family Man” and the didgeridoo outro on “Dingoes Took My Baby.”

7. With 2020 upon us, what surprises do you have in store?

We’re going to be doing some touring, and are hoping to surprise ourselves by dropping a second album in 2020!
