Leonardtown Veteran Recognized in Veteran of Foreign Wars Still Serving Campaign

Leonardtown veteran Andrew Jilcott is being recognized in the VFW’s Still Serving campaign for helping deliver something many children take for granted — a bed of their own.

Jilcott continues his commitment to service as delivery manager for the local chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. The nonprofit builds and delivers beds to children in St. Mary’s County who have been sleeping on floors, couches, blankets or shared mattresses.

For many of these children, it’s the first time they have ever had a bed.

“The minute these kids see their very own bed for the first time is nothing short of amazing,” Jilcott said.

Jilcott says growing up in a tight-knit rural community taught him the importance of showing up for neighbors in need. Today, he channels that same spirit into ensuring every child in his county has a warm, safe place to sleep.

Jilcott is a member of VFW Post 2632.

VFW’s Still Serving campaign shines a light on veterans who continue to better their communities after the military.
