Maryland Man's Death In DC Being Investigated As A Homicide: PD

Police are investigating the death of a Bowie, Md. man in Washington, D.C. as a homicide.

WASHINGTON, DC — A Bowie, Md. resident has died following an altercation in Northwest Washington. Police said Daniel Olaya's death is being investigated as a homicide.

The Feb. 5 incident happened in the 1900 block of 4th St., according to authorities. At about 1:45 a.m., Olaya, 35, and the suspect got into an argument. During the altercation, the suspect purposely hit the Bowie resident with his car and fled the scene.

Olaya, who suffered life-threatening injuries, died at a local hospital the next day, police said.

"This is something that's going to live with us for the rest of our lives. That he was taken from us too soon, and for something so stupid," Becky Olaya, the victim's sister, told WJLA.

Authorities said the vehicle that struck Olaya, described as a 2016 Toyota RAV4, was captured by a nearby surveillance camera.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) responsible for a homicide in the District.
