Chief Medical Examiner Rules Fatal Shooting To Be A Homicide
After performing an autopsy, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death of a Northeast man to be a homicide.
WASHINGTON, DC — The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner announced Tuesday that the June 30 fatal shooting of Carey Edwin Jones, 41, of Northeast, was a homicide, according to a police release.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District responded around 10:12 p.m., on June 30, to the report of a shooting in the 5000 block of Hanna Place, S.E. They found Jones suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS transported Jones to a local hospital for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries on July 21.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy and determined the cause of death to be complications of gunshot wounds. The manner of death was ruled to be a homicide.

MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any persons responsible for committing a homicide in the District. Police ask anyone with information about this case to call 202-727-9099 or send an anonymous tip by text to 50411.
