New Data: 3rd DC Police Officer Tests Positive For Coronavirus

A third member of the Metropolitan Police Department tests positive for coronavirus, as total number of cases in the District reaches 267.

WASHINGTON, DC — A third member of the Metropolitan Police Department has tested positive for the new coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. The news comes as the D.C. Department of Health confirms 36 new positive cases of the virus, bringing the overall number of positive cases in the District to 267.

The MPD officer with the positive test result for COVID-19 has been quarantined, according to a police release, and is recovering at home. D.C. Fire and EMS health officials have started contact tracing to see if any other personnel or members of the public were potentially exposed to coronavirus by the officer. Health officials will notify anyone identified as being exposed and will provide further instructions.

As of Wednesday at 9:30 a.m, the District had 70 ICU beds available for coronavirus pattens. Of the 405 ventilators in the District, 147 are in-use, leaving 258 available.
