Northeast DC Man Accused Of First Degree Murder: Police Report
Homicide detectives charged a Northeast man in connection with the Oct. 6, fatal shooting of Michael Bright in Deanwood.
WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department arrested a Northeast man Thursday in connection with the Oct. 6 fatal shooting of 30 year-old Michael Bright, of Northeast, in Deanwood, according to a police release.
Officers from the Sixth District responded around 9:08 p.m., for the report of the sound of gunshots in the 1100 block of 45th St., N.E. They found Bright suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and EMS took him to a nearby hospital, but all lifesaving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead.
Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant Thursday, members of the Major Violator Section’s Fugitive Unit took custody of Delonte Samuel, 28, of Northeast. They charged him with first degree murder while armed – felony murder. Police released Samuel's arrest history, which includes charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of unregistered ammunition, carrying a pistol without a license, threats to do bodily harm, and simple Assault. He was under the supervision of the District's Pretrial Services Agency when Bright was killed. This case remains under investigation.

MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any persons responsible for committing a homicide in the District. Police ask anyone with information about this case to call 202-727-9099 or send an anonymous tip by text to 50411.
