One Of Best Dive Bars In America Calls DC Home: Thrillist
Beer, stiff drinks and nothing fancy make up the best dive bars in the country. One is in Washington, DC.

WASHINGTON, DC — They aren't a chain with a 50-page cocktail menu, they don't have expensive interiors where you could have a business meeting. Dive bars offer a straight-forward place to sit at the bar and have a drink. These watering holes might not be the cleanest places you've been in, and the crowd can run to surly and exhausted; you might find a not-new TV showing a ball game or hockey match.
Thrillist recently put together a list of what it defines as the 33 Best Dive Bars In America, and one Washington, D.C., spot made the cut. The website says, "There's a time and place for a great craft beer or an expertly made cocktail. That time is not now. And the place does not exist anywhere on this list."
Dan's Cafe is The District dive bar that deserves praise, Thrillist says. The website says of it:

Patron can all agree it's worth "cramming into an old, dilapidated building that looks like it could double as the set of some American-set Eli Roth torture-porn opus, pushing through a crowd, plopping down a $20, and ordering an old condiment squirt bottle full of well liquor. Pour a couple shots for yourself. ... By the end of the night, your feet will be sticky, you'll need a shower, and you'll have made a new friend who may or may not be too hungover to effectively contribute to partisan politics in the morning. It's the dive bar DC needs. And probably the one it deserves."
