Reminder: Don't Use The Metro This Weekend

And that's coming from WMATA.

Were you planning on using the Metro this weekend? Don't. Just don't.

Turn around. Don't even think about walking through those turnstiles. And don't take our word for it: take WMATA's.

"Customers who use these lines [Orange, Blue, and Silver] are strongly encouraged to use alternate transportation during the two work-weeks of the project," Metro said in a statement. Keep in mind the Red Line is also in the midst of a 45-day mess, with two stations shut down for the duration.

Metro is preaching its message of abandoning Metro quite diligently: they've been passing out pamphlets to commuters in recent weeks that read: "Only take Metro if you have no other option."

So specifically what's the problem? Well, the Blue Line starts at Franconia-Springfield and normally goes all the way through Arlington before looping back through downtown D.C. and out toward Prince George's County. But because of the track work, the Blue Line will stop at Arlington Cemetery.

And the Farragut West, McPherson Square, and Metro Center stations will all be closed as track work goes on as Metro works to fix maintenance issues on "the tightest curve in the Metrorail system between McPherson Square and Smithsonian stations."

And that's not to mention that a group of white supremacists may be using the Metro to head to the White House on Sunday, raising fears of violence.

Basically, there's a lot of good reasons to avoid the Metro for a little while. Take WMATA's word for it.
