Smithsonian Hosting a 'Night at the Museum'
The public is invited to spend all night in the Air and Space Museum, enjoying special programs and a film festival.

Interested in spending a night at the museum this summer? You're in luck -- just don't expect Ben Stiller or Robin Williams to show up.
The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is celebrating its 40th birthday with an "All Night at the Museum" event coming the weekend before Independence Day.
The museum is inviting the public to "explore the museum after dark" beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 1 and stretching all the way until 10 a.m. the next morning.

"In honor of the 40th anniversary of the building in Washington, DC, and the re-opening of the Boeing Milestones of Flight Hall, we're staying open all night for the first time ever," the museum said in a statement. "You'll have a chance to enjoy special programs and explore our collection after-hours, with special guests, music, tours, a film festival, and other activities for all ages."
The film festival kicks off with one of the first science fiction movies ever made: Le Voyage dans la Lune from 1902. If you're in the mood for comedy, there will be a Mystery Science Theater 3000 showing of the 1950s film "Destination Moon." You can also check out the classic 2001: A Space Odyssey, as well as GalaxyQuest, Top Gun and Hugo.
