Suspect Arrested After Shooting At Two Volunteer DC Cops: Chief
"It looks like he tried to assassinate a couple of our police officers," Chief Peter Newsham said.
WASHINGTON, DC - A suspect was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after police said he opened fire on two reserve officers.
Delvin Pollard, 25, of northeast DC is charged with assault with intent to kill, assault on a police officer and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Shortly before 4 p.m., two reserve police officers with the Metropolitan Police Department were in their patrol cars along the 300 block of Hawaii Avenue NE when Pollard began shooting at them from a wooded area, police said.

"It looks like he tried to assassinate a couple of our police officers,” Chief Peter Newsham with the Metropolitan Police Department said.
Fortunately, the two officers were not struck and immediately called for backup.

Officers from the fourth district quickly responded and were able to take Pollard into custody and recovered a gun from the scene, the chief said.
“Their (reserve officers) actions today are really heroic," the chief said Thursday. "The actions of the officers who responded to the scene are incredibly heroic.”

None of the officers who responded to the scene had to fire a single shot, the chief added.
Reserve officers are fully trained officers but work with the Metropolitan Police Department on a volunteer basis.
