Today's Google Doodle Was Created by a D.C. High-Schooler
Akilah Johnson of Eastern Senior High School won a contest for drawing today's Google Doodle.

A high-schooler from Washington, D.C. has won a nationwide "Doodle 4 Google" contest and is currently being featured on the front page of Google.
Akilah Johnson of Eastern Senior High School created "Google in My Afrocentric Life," which beat out all the other finalists to take the top honor, according to Google.
"My Afrocentric Google is drawn as a box braid, with my personal characteristics surrounding it," Johnson wrote. "I based this picture off my lifestyle and what has made me into what I am today."

The challenge of the contest was for students to create doodles that explains "What makes me... me.
"Kids have all kinds of things that make them unique, so they could use all kinds of materials to create their doodles, from crayons, to clay, to yarn, to graphic design, even food and video games," Google stated. "As with every Doodle 4 Google contest, the winner's artwork will be featured on the Google homepage for a day."

The judges based their decision on artistic merit, creativity and theme communication.
