'Tower Of Light' Display At Pentagon To Honor 9/11 Victims

In honor of the people killed at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, a single beam of light will illuminate the night sky above the building.

WASHINGTON, DC — In honor of the people killed at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, a single beam of light will illuminate the night sky above the Department of Defense headquarters through early Sunday morning.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation held its inaugural "Tower of Light" tribute in 2020 and is bringing back the event to the Pentagon this week to mark the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon. The lights will be illuminated each night from Thursday night to the early morning hours on Sunday.

The Tower of Light will honor the people who died when American Airlines Flight 77 was crashed into the Pentagon, killing all 64 people on the plane and 125 people in the building

“We hope that these lights will remind people not of the darkness of that day, but that light will always conquer the dark,” Siller, chairman and CEO of the foundation, said in a statement. "I hope that everyone who sees these lights, which are visible for dozens of miles, will pause to remember what happened on 9/11.”

Tunnel to Towers plans to bring back the Tower of Light to the Pentagon every year. The beam of light is made up of 44 individual lights. The light beam can reach 18,000 feet into the air on a clear night.
