Trump's White House Sends Out Article Mocking His Own Budget

Someone at the White House didn't read past the headline of a satirical piece from the Washington Post.

WASHINGTON, DC — Is it possible that President Trump has a self-effacing sense of humor, or did someone in the White House just really screw up?

The White House sends out a daily email called the "1600 Daily," usually featuring the daily activities by Trump and other White House officials, along with some hand-picked news articles that paint the president in a positive light. Bizarrely, Friday's edition featured a link to a satirical piece that makes fun of Trump's new budget.

It seems likely that someone in the press office simply didn't bother to read past the following Washington Post headline: "Trump's budget makes perfect sense and will fix America, and I will tell you why." Sounds like great news for the White House and President Trump, right? As it turns out, it's actually fake news -- more specifically, a satirical article by humorist Alexanda Petri.

"This budget will make America a lean, mean fighting machine with bulging, rippling muscles and not an ounce of fat," reads one passage in the linked post. "America has been weak and soft for too long. BUT HOW WILL I SURVIVE ON THIS BUDGET? you may be wondering. I AM A HUMAN CHILD, NOT A COSTLY FIGHTER JET. You may not survive, but that is because you are SOFT and WEAK, something this budget is designed to eliminate."

Remarkably, as of 2:30 p.m. on Friday, the link is still prominently featured on the White House's 1600 Daily website.
