WASHINGTON, DC -- D.C. Fire and EMS rescue personnel removed a victim who was trapped in crashed vehicle Wednesday evening in the Fort Totten area, and then transported them to a trauma center for treatment, according to a post on DCEMS' official Twitter account.

Units responded shortly after 7 p.m. on Jan. 8, to the report of a two-vehicle crash at North Capitol and Gallatin streets, N.W. Arriving on the scene, rescue personnel found one vehicle on its side, according to Vito Maggiolo, D.C. Fire and EMS public information officer.

"One person was trapped inside the overturned vehicle, so our rescue squad went to work," he said. "First of all, we had to stabilize the vehicle to make sure it wouldn't tip further. Once that was done, then they used extrication tools to remove the one victim, who was transported to an area hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries."
