The Washington Informer to Host ‘Waymo in the District: A Safe & Accessible Future’

The event will highlight how autonomous driving technology can safely serve underrepresented communities and enhance safety for pedestrians

WASHINGTON — Will people in the District soon be able to hail a Waymo, the world’s leading fully autonomous ride-hailing service? The Washington Informer, the multimedia news organization serving African Americans for over 60 years, will host an exclusive community dialogue and presentation to discuss “Waymo in the District: A Safe & Accessible Future.”

Councilmember Charles Allen, Chair of the Council’s Committee on Transportation and the Environment, has introduced legislation to allow the commercial deployment of autonomous vehicles (AVs) offering rideshare services in the District.

Denise Rolark Barnes, Publisher of The Washington Informer, will serve as moderator for the event and says, “The future of transportation is indeed here and it’s vital that D.C. be part of this important conversation. We look forward to discussing the important issues around autonomous vehicles in keeping with The Informer’s tradition of educating, empowering and informing our community.”

D.C. Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6) and Chairperson, Committee on Transportation and the Environment, will deliver remarks.

Councilmember Allen’s remarks will be followed by a panel discussion on the future of autonomous vehicles in the District, featuring Waymo and local leaders working to advance transportation innovation in D.C.:
