What is World Civil Defense Day?

World Civil Defense Day Open House to Spotlight Disaster Preparedness and Community Resilience

Washington, DC —In observance of World Civil Defense Day, the Founding Church of Scientology of Washington, DC will host a World Civil Defense Day Open House featuring the work of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers, a global humanitarian program dedicated to disaster response, emergency preparedness, and community resilience.

World Civil Defense Day was established by the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) to raise global awareness about the importance of disaster preparedness, emergency response, and civilian protection. The day highlights how governments, first responders, volunteers, and community organizations work together to reduce risks and save lives during natural disasters, accidents, and humanitarian crises.

The event will start at the Church’s Public Information Center and will feature a self-guided tour of a special exhibit, and then continue with an Open House presentation, and opportunities for networking and conversation.

The Open House provides attendees with an opportunity to explore educational materials, ask questions, and engage directly with others interested in disaster response, emergency preparedness, and community involvement.
