Wizards Join PepsiCo For Back-To-School Event In Southwest DC

More than 300 students attended the Pepsi Stronger Together Back-to-School Market at the Randall Recreation Center in D.C. on Sunday.

WASHINGTON, DC — More than 300 students attended the Pepsi Stronger Together Back-to-School Market at the Randall Recreation Center in Southwest D.C. on Sunday, where they received donated supplies and meals and heard a panel discussion on life lessons and connections made through basketball.

The event was held in partnership with Giant Food and the Washington Wizards.

The four-hour back-to-school market included school supplies provided by PepsiCo, and lunch, snacks and gift cards provided by Giant Food

Four basketball clinics for children of all ages was held to enhance their game-playing skills. A DJ, balloon artists and a special appearance by Washington Wizards mascot G-Wiz also highlighted the event.

The 30-minute panel discussion, moderated by Meghan McPeak, Washington Mystics play-by-play broadcaster, included conversations with Chanel Dickerson, assistant chief of the Youth & Family Engagement Bureau for the Metropolitan Police Department; John Thompson III, vice president of player engagement for Monumental Sports and Entertainment; and Phil Chenier, legendary Washington Bullets player and Washington Bullets/Wizards broadcaster.
