Woodbridge veteran Leamon Duncan is being honored for his dedication to country and community in the VFW #StillServing campaign. The national Veterans of Foreign Wars #StillServing campaign shines a spotlight on veterans who continue to serve in their community after the military.

After retiring as a 16-year U.S. Army veteran, Duncan continued to feel the call to serve. Duncan serves as vice president for the local chapter of National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR). In that role, he participates in recognition ceremonies for veterans and students, memorial and grave marking ceremonies, judges the Virginia History Day student competition and more. In addition he serves on the Virginia Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard and as such participates in fully attired live-fire musket ceremonies.

Duncan also voluntarily cleans veteran headstones and assists veterans with genealogical research, having recently helped a veteran connect with his family in England.

Duncan says he is #StillServing “to honor and remember the service and sacrifices made by our original veterans who fought for the freedoms we all enjoy today” and is particularly interested in the American Revolution because his fourth great-grandfather fought under General Washington at the Battle of Yorktown that ended the war.

VFW invites all veterans to share how they are still serving at vfw.org/stillserving.
