1,400-Pound Great White Shark Third To Recently Ping Near FL
The adult great white shark was first tagged in Nova Scotia more than three years ago before pinging near Florida.
FLORIDA — New Year's Day ushered in more than celebrations and resolutions when a great white shark weighing 1,437 pounds visited the Florida coast to join in on the holiday fun.
Breton, an adult shark who is 13 feet and 3 inches long, pinged around 1:30 p.m. Monday near Flagler Beach, according to the latest data from the oceanic research nonprofit, Ocearch.
Ocearch reported Breton's location was first tagged on Sept. 12, 2020, in Scaterie Island, Nova Scotia. The organization said Breton was the first shark tagged during its expedition to Nova Scotia and "is named for all of the wonderful people of Cape Breton where he was tagged."

Ocearch had been working on Scaterie Island, where Breton became the fifth shark to be tagged in the area, the organization said.
News Channel 8 reported Saturday that Breton is the third great white to visit the Florida coast.

The outlet reported Penny, who was 10 feet long and 522 pounds, pinged near the Key Largo coast on Dec. 28, 2023 while Crystal, who was 10 feet and 460 pounds, pinged near the Daytona Coast and St. Augustine in November 2023.
