12-Year-Old Girl Charged In Threats To Shoot Up Florida School, Reports Says

The girl sent the threats, which were a hoax, to herself, the reports said.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL — A 12-year-old girl is facing charges in connection with messages that threatened to shoot up a middle school, according to reports.

The girl, a student at Silver Sands Middle School, had told authorities someone sent her a message demanding she send explicit photos of herself over Snapchat, Fox35 Orlando reported.

She claimed the person had threatened to shoot up the school if she did not comply, that report said.

The alleged threats included photos of firearms and specifics about the girl's class schedule, WFTV 9 reported. Authorities determined the photos had been gotten from the internet, and that the girl had created the Snapchat account and sent the threatening messages to herself, that report said.

The girl told authorities she had been dared to make the fake threats, Fox 35 reported.

She has been charged with making a false report and unlawful use of a communications device, the reports said.
