Closures Continue For Sitdown Seafood Chain; These Locations Remain In FL

The chain had around 140 restaurants in 2014, FSR previously reported.

Joe’s Crab Shack, which once had more than 100 locations, is now down to just over a dozen, with four — soon to be three — remaining in Florida.

The seafood chain ran around 140 restaurants in 2014, but when its parent company, Ignite Restaurant Group, filed for bankruptcy in 2017, that number had dropped to 112, and just a few months later, there were only 72, FSR reported at the time, adding that Landry’s Inc. bought the brand at auction.

The closures have continued, with a San Diego location shuttering last year, according to TheStreet, and a Jacksonville Beach restaurant is set to be converted into a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. — another brand owned by Landry’s — in the near future, USA Today reported.

In addition to California and Florida, other closures in recent years have affected locations in New Jersey, Texas and Louisiana, according to TheStreet and USA Today.

“The closures are primarily due to lease expirations, declining sales, and strategic shifts by parent company Landry’s, Inc.,” TheStreet reported last year.

After the Jacksonville Beach restaurant closes, only 14 locations will remain, according to the company’s website, including restaurants in Daytona Beach, Destin and Orlando.
