WEST PALM BEACH, FL — A Florida man was sentenced to 15 months in prison last week for making online threats against outspoken and far-right Republican congresswoman Lauren Boebert.

Matthew Lee Comiskey was sentenced Thursday during a hearing at the Paul G. Rogers federal courthouse in West Palm Beach. Comiskey's sentence will begin in August.

According to court documents, Comiskey pleaded guilty in August 2022 to one count of making an interstate threat after authorities said he sent threatening tweets to Boebert, a staunch supporter of gun rights and the Second Amendment who represents Colorado.

“Don’t worry Lauren, someone is coming soon to show your face the 2nd amendment in practice with a copper jacket. Enjoy,” Comiskey wrote in one message, according to court records obtained by The Palm Beach Post.

In another post, Comiskey encouraged others to harm Boebert, writing, “Someone needs to put Lauren down like a sick dog. She is a true waste of life! Someone exercise their second amendment right to her face!"

Comiskey's attorney called the sentence "unfortunate," according to the Post.

"It's just very unfortunate that Mr. Comiskey has to do jail time," Michael B. Cohen said. "I understand the need for deterrent generally but, in this particular case, it was just a kind, good man who made a big mistake."
