Golfer Tiger Woods Charged With DUI After Rollover Crash In FL
Tiger Woods was arrested on a DUI charge after a crash Friday afternoon in Jupiter Island, where the golf legend lives, police said.
UPDATED at 5:32 p.m.
JUPITER ISLAND, FL — Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after the Land Rover he was driving struck another vehicle and rolled in Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday, according to police.
At a news conference held following the incident, Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek confirmed Woods was involved in the two-car collision, which occurred around 2 p.m., not far from where Woods lives in Jupiter Island.

Budensiek said a truck hauling a trailer was northbound on South Beach Road in Jupiter Island when a dark-colored Land Rover driven by Woods tried to overtake the truck at a high rate of speed.
According to Budensiek, the driver of the truck attempted to move off the road, but the Land Rover clipped the truck's trailer and rolled over.

Woods was able to climb out of the vehicle, but Budensiek said he showed signs of impairment and was lethargic. Following a series of roadside tests, Woods was arrested and taken to the Martin County Jail.
Budensiek said Woods was not under the influence of alcohol and "blew triple zeroes" on a breathalyzer test; however, he refused to submit to a urinalysis and was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported following the collision. Woods was charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
Woods' manager at Excel Sports did not immediately respond to a text message from the Associated Press seeking information.
The crash comes days after Woods, 50, made his golf return at the TGL Finals this week in Palm Beach. He last played at the British Open in 2024, the New York Post said.
Cheering Woods on at the tourney was his reported girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., the Post said.
It was the third time Woods has been involved in a car crash, most recently in February 2021 when his SUV ran off a coastal road in Los Angeles at a high rate of speed, which led to multiple leg and ankle injuries. Woods said later that doctors considered amputation.
The 2021 rollover crash near Rancho Palos Verdes, California, was blamed on speed, and authorities said Woods drove from 84 to 87 mph and struggled to negotiate the curve of the roadway, which is a problem area for local drivers. He crashed into a tree at a speed of 75 mph, the department said. No evidence of any impairment was found.
The 15-time major champion also was arrested on a DUI charge in 2017 when south Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of his car that was parked awkwardly with damage to the driver's side. Woods said later he had taken a bad mix of painkillers.
Woods had been working his way back to golf from a seventh back surgery last September. He had not decided whether he could play in the Masters on April 9-12.
His last official tournament was the British Open in 2024. Woods ruptured his Achilles tendon in March 2025 and that kept him off the course all season, and then he had another back surgery in September. He managed to play in his indoor TGL golf league on Tuesday night.
He has kept deeply involved in PGA Tour affairs as chairman of the Future Competition Committee that is restructuring the model of the tour.
Woods also faced a soft deadline at the end of the month to decide whether to become U.S. Ryder Cup captain for the 2027 matches in Ireland. Woods was offered the job for the last Ryder Cup and did not turn it down until June. The PGA of America wants a decision much sooner this time.
