APD reports three burglaries during weekly reporting period (theapopkavoice.com subscription) — Apopka police logged three burglaries between July 26 and August 1, including two vehicle break-ins on Lancer Oak Drive and Vicks Landing Drive and a commercial burglary on West Martin Street. No homes were hit, but investigators are still working the cases, and officers are urging residents to lock cars, secure homes, and share any tips with APD or Crimeline.

Judge orders Florida to rewrite property tax amendment wording (theapopkachief.com) — A Leon County judge has ordered Florida’s attorney general to rewrite the ballot language for a proposed property tax-cut amendment that could cost Apopka about $60 million over five years. The ruling keeps the measure on the November ballot but demands less political, more accurate wording, while local leaders and residents weigh lower tax bills against potential cuts to city services.
   

3. Former Plymouth Elementary proposed for National Register listing (theapopkachief.com) — A historic former Black elementary school on Hogshead Road in Apopka’s Plymouth community is being considered for the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its key role during segregation. The same report details upcoming Development Review Committee decisions on new subdivisions, commercial projects, and park facilities around Apopka, plus a backpack giveaway and fall festival residents may want to track.
   

4. Apopka utility bills could rise again this fall — and property taxes may climb, too (clickorlando.com) — Apopka residents are facing proposed increases this fall to water, sewer, reclaimed water, and garbage rates, with a public hearing set for Sept. 2 at City Hall and possible implementation Oct. 1. City leaders are also weighing a higher property-tax rate, raising questions about how the extra money will be spent and what improvements residents should expect in return.
