MANATEE COUNTY, FL — Investigators are working to identify a woman whose partial human remains were found near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on Saturday morning, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
The Florida Highway Patrol received a report just before 8 a.m. that a body had washed ashore along the northbound lanes of Interstate 275 near the bridge, according to MCSO.
Deputies and detectives responded to the bridge and determined the remains belonged to an adult woman.
Investigators haven't been able to determine the woman's age or physical characteristics, and her identity hadn't been released as of Tuesday morning.
The circumstances surrounding the woman's death also remain under investigation.
Detectives believe she may have been in the water for several days before the remains were recovered.
An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday to help determine the cause and manner of death and assist investigators with identifying the woman. The autopsy results haven't been released.
The sheriff's office hasn't said whether there are any indications of foul play.
Anyone who has information about a missing adult woman or information that could assist investigators is asked to contact the Manatee County Sheriff's Office at 941-747-3011.
