BRADENTON, FL — An armed man faces charges after a police standoff Tuesday morning, according to a Bradenton Police Department news release.

Malcolm McAllister, 31, of Palmetto is charged with aggravated domestic violence with a firearm, kidnapping, burglary with battery, aggravated domestic violence by strangulation and being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said. At the time of his arrest, he was wanted on similar charges in Manatee County.

Officers responded to a report of a domestic incident at a home in the 1100 block of 20th Street E. just after 6 a.m., the agency said. They found McAllister, who doesn’t live at the home, armed with a handgun.

At the time, there was a woman and five children in the home. She and four of the kids were able to get out, leaving behind one young child who was sleeping, police said.

The Bradenton police SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the home. McAllister surrendered to officers around 8:30 a.m., BPD said. The child in the house was uninjured.

The gun was recovered from the home and police determined that it had been reported stolen in Hillsborough County.
