Simple Pleasures
Are your days filled with sweetness? What would happen if you injected your day with simple pleasures and expressed gratitude at the end the day? It's a gift you have the power to create for yourself.
I had been writing a different blog for today. And, then Sunday happened.
Simple pleasures. A morning rain shower. A clean house. A hot shower. Smoked salmon. Home made, brewed iced tea. A good book on my Kindle. A nap. 80 degrees and sunny with a nice breeze. A walk by the lake with my dog and a good friend. Juicy sweet, watermelon. All in all, an excellent day!
I had posted this on my personal Facebook page late in the evening and immediately a response came back. “Wow! I wish I had your day!” That got me thinking.

It wasn’t as if the day didn’t have its moments. I had aggravated a chronic injury the day before and it was hurting all the way down my leg. The house needed cleaning, which is one of my least favorite things to do. And, I spent the majority of a gorgeous day working on my taxes. Ugh!
So how did the day turn out so sweet? Well, both days happened. The everyday drudge. And, simple pleasures. In the end, it was how I chose to see it.

Aggravating my hip injury on Saturday was the tap on the shoulder I needed. Well, maybe a little more than a tap. My body had been speaking to me. Asking me to come back into awareness about myself. And, I hadn’t been listening. Recently, my state of mind, sleep and energy had been out of balance. Okay, so it was definitely time to check in and see what was up. Ah, yes. There were those many moments lately where I have been too caught up in thinking about the future to notice the present. Drat! I was visiting old habits, again.
Yep, I definitely needed an attitude adjustment. But, this didn’t take a seismic shift. Just some simple choices.
So, on Sunday, I chose to listen to my body. I chose to be in the present. I alternated activity with repose. I injected the day with small moments of things I enjoy. And, I chose to notice those pleasures. What brought it all together, though, was choosing to express gratitude for those simple pleasures before I turned in for the evening.
As I pulled the crisp, cool sheets over me for the night, with the overhead fan softly whirring and creating a gentle breeze, listening to my old dog softly snoring nearby, it was the sweetness of the day I had chosen to take with me into my dreams.
