Frontier Racks Up 144 Florida Complaints In 1 Month

The state of Florida says the number of complaints it received about Frontier Communications in a month topped Verizon's for an entire year.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Since its April 1 takeover of service from Verizon FiOS, Frontier Communications has managed to break a record of sorts in the Sunshine State. The record, however, probably isn’t one a service provider would want to its credit.

“Since Frontier Communications began providing those services on April 1, 2016, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has received 144 complaints, eclipsing in one month the 111 complaints Verizon had received in a one-year period,” the department announced in a Monday email to media.

Considering those numbers, Florida Commission of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam is urging Frontier to get its customer issues resolved now. The company purchased Verizon’s Florida television, landline and internet operations, along with those in Texas and California.

Since the takeover, customers have complained about such issues as billing problems, a total loss of services, the disappearance of previously purchased movies and more.

“Frontier Communications’ customers don’t know where to turn for help with their service issues, and I encourage Floridians to contact my department so we can assist,” Putnam said in a statement. “While we do not have oversight over Frontier Communications, we’re here to advocate on behalf of Florida’s consumers. Floridians can call 1-800-HELP-FLA or visit FreshFromFlorida.com today.”

A request for comment from Frontier was not immediately answered Monday.

Frontier’s Florida acquisition included such Tampa Bay area counties as Hillsborough, Pasco, Manatee, Polk, Pinellas and Sarasota.

Patch has also received numerous complaints from Frontier customers since the April 1 takeover occurred.

Back in April, reader Scotty Greshm reported filing a formal complaint with the Federal Communications Commission.

“My service stopped on 1 April and hasn’t returned,” Gresham wrote in an email to Patch sent April 11. “My dentist, local retailers, and others in Sarasota are in the same boat. We’re in 11 days and no end in sight.”

Gresham’s complaints have been echoed by hundreds of others on Frontier’s own Facebook page and on Patch stories related to the topic.

“Frontier’s customer service is just horrible,” one person wrote in a previous story’s comments section. “I never thought there would be a day where I would be begging for Verizon’s customer service.”

“No DVR, no VOD, no HD, not yet sure what else I’m lacking in service other than customer service,” reader David wrote. “And, I’m one of the ‘lucky’ ones, at least I have television.”

New complaints continued to appear on Frontier’s Facebook page Monday, May 9.

“Worse customer service ever. Internet, phone and tv went out on April 1,” a customer wrote on Facebook Monday. “Internet back on a week later but no tv or phone. Numerous calls, two (technicians) came out and couldn't fix. Several more appointments made and no one showed or called to say couldn't make it. Called to cancel and was assured someone would be out next day but no show. Cancelled today and got Direct TV.”

The complaints even prompted competitor Bright House Networks to offer Frontier customers a deal to switch. The company was offering up to $240 in credits to cover customer costs of breaking their contracts.
