"Steve's leadership role in the Sarasota community, his passion for social justice and his great interpersonal skills make him a natural leader to advance the work of an organization that plays a central role in making this a better place for everyone to live in,” said Mendels, a retired psychiatrist who has been on the JFCS board for six years.

From 2014-15, over 15,000 individuals received more than 75,000 services from JFCS, including case management, individual and group counseling, life skills education and assistance with basic life necessities, such as food and emergency financial assistance for homeless prevention. JFCS’s over 450 volunteers provided more than 7,500 hours of service during that time.

"Each board chair brings a unique set of skills to the position," said Rose Chapman, president and CEO of JFCS. "I look forward to working with Steve and benefiting from his business expertise to continue to strengthen and grow JFCS as a leading social service organization serving all people in our community."
