Man Broke Into Box Truck To Take A Nap: Bradenton Police

The man, thought to be a St. Patty's Day partier, damaged a box truck searching for sneakers he lost during his nap, Bradenton police said.

BRADENTON, FL — Officers are looking for a man, likely a St. Patrick’s Day partier, who broke into a box truck on March 15 to take a nap, Bradenton police wrote in a social media post.

Video surveillance footage showed the “unlucky gentleman” climbing into an unlocked box truck parked in the 300 block of Manatee Avenue West just before 3 a.m., police said. (Watch the video below.)

The man “kicked off his shoes and made himself comfy for nearly 5.5 hours,” according to the post.

Just before 8:30 a.m., “after some light calisthenics and a potty break, he went on the hunt for his missing sneakers,” officers said.

The man repeatedly tried to enter an identical truck while searching for his sneakers. When he couldn’t get into the truck, he found a heavy item and used it to break the driver’s side window (and inadvertently broke the passenger-side window) before leaving the scene.

The man was wearing a green “Ireland” jersey, shorts and socks. He wasn’t wearing shoes when he left the area, “which tells us he may have had one too many green beers,” police said.

Anybody who recognizes him is asked to contact Officer Anthony Cerniglia at anthony.cerniglia@bradentonpd.com.

Officers have his missing shoes.

“We give the perp props for not drinking and driving. He made a lot of mistakes - but getting behind the wheel (of a car he could operate) wasn't one of them,” police wrote.
