Man Delivers Dead Body to Lawyer's Office

The Florida man claims to have killed his neighbor in self-defense.

When a Lee County man killed his neighbor during a dispute Wednesday, he wasn’t sure how to handle the aftermath.

Looking for a trustworthy place to turn to help, John Marshall, 52, loaded the corpse into the back of his pickup truck and drove to his attorney’s Fort Myers office.

Marshall, WCTV reported, showed up at Robert Harris’ law office around 4 p.m. Wednesday. He remained there until about 10:30 p.m. when he finally decided to pay a visit to a local hospital for treatment of a swollen lip, potentially broken thumbs and a missing tooth, the station reported.

Attorneys in Harris’ office called 911 shortly after Marshall’s arrival with the body of Ted Hubbell. The two men, News-Press reported, had been in a dispute over property work in the community of Bokeelia. Marshall had been advised to get a restraining order, the paper noted.

It seems earlier in the day on Wednesday, the ongoing dispute between Marshall and Hubbell turned violent. Marshall told his attorney he wrestled the gun away from his across-the-street neighbor and shot him, the paper reported.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office had not charged Marshall in the shooting as of Thursday afternoon. It remains unclear if he will face charges. Harris told News-Press Marshall would not be charged, but Lee County deputies have declined comment.

Marshall was arrested last September on an aggravated battery charge, Lee County Jail records indicate. That case involved a dispute in a Cape Coral McDonald’s parking lot, the News-Press reported. It’s set for a pretrial conference later this month.
