Man Indicted In Killing Of Girlfriend At Bradenton Hotel: Brodsky

A man was charged with first-degree murder in the killing of his girlfriend at a Bradenton hotel in August, Brodsky's office said.

BRADENTON, FL — A man was indicted after confessing to killing his girlfriend at a Bradenton hotel in August, according to a news release from State Attorney Ed Brodsky’s office.

Steven Joseph Cozens was charged with first-degree murder, his office said. He faces a maximum possible sentence of life in prison.

He was living temporarily at America’s Best Value Inn, located at 607 57th Circle E. in Bradenton, with his girlfriend, the victim.

During an Aug. 28 argument at the hotel, Cozens pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed his girlfriend, killing her, the state attorney said.

He wrapped her body in a sheet, hiding it under the mattress of one of the beds in their room.

Her body was found the next day by a housekeeping staff member, Brodsky said. Cozens was arrested the same day.
