Neurosurgeon's Joke 'Bombs' at Miami Airport
The joke-gone-wrong delayed thousands of passengers and closed two airport concourses.

A Venezuelan neurosurgeon will pay dearly for allegedly losing his head at Miami Airport two months ago when a bomb joke delayed flights from five airlines and shut down two airport concourses, according to the Miami Herald.
Dr. Manuel Alvarado agreed to pay $89,172.53 for jokingly indicating to airport staff that he was carrying explosives.
When an airport ticket agent asked Alvarado the typical question, “do you have any explosives in your bag,” he replied, “C-4.” The agent asked Alvarado if that was a gun and when he claimed it was an explosive, the agent quickly called police.

Most of Alvarado’s fine–$84,000–will go to the five airlines that delayed flights while police investigated his luggage. The rest will go to the Miami-Dade police, according to the Herald. The fine will waive any charges against Alvarado for making a false bomb threat.
Thousands of passengers were delayed that day due to Alvarado’s joke, according to the Herald.
