Woman Lost Leg In Motorcycle Crash, Officer Saved Her Life: Police
A Bradenton police officer was honored for saving the life of a woman who lost her leg in a Palmetto motorcycle crash.

BRADENTON, FL — A Bradenton police officer was honored with the city's Life Saving Award during Wednesday’s Bradenton City Council meeting.
On Jan. 29, Officer Jessica Sirignano was driving home from work when she came upon a crash involving a motorcycle on U.S. 41 in Palmetto. The crash happened just minutes before she got to the area and no other emergency personnel were at the scene yet, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
She immediately turned her patrol vehicle around and helped the motorcycle riders, a husband and wife who were both critically injured in the crash.

The woman’s leg was cut off at the knee in the crash and she was losing a significant amount of blood by the time Sirignano arrived, police said. The officer applied a tourniquet to the woman and did CPR until she regained consciousness.
Once the wife was breathing, Sirignano turned her attention to the man, who also had significant injuries and was losing blood. She took off his belt to make a make-shift tourniquet to slow the bleeding and also rendered CPR on him, police said.
