Gallery: Cub Scouts Get Fingerprinted

They spent some time at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office's District IV headquarters.

A group of curious Cub Scouts recently had the chance to spend some time with a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy.

The third-graders from Pack 603 Bear Den 7 paid a visit to the District IV headquarters, 508 33rd St. S.E. in Ruskin, last Thursday. While the trip was meant as a chance for the boys to get fingerprinted for safety’s sake, Cpl. Thornton took some extra time out to explain what he does.

“Cpl. Thornton discussed the importance of wearing seat belts in cars and helmets on bikes,” said Debbie Carter, sheriff’s office spokeswoman. “The Scouts were curious about all the items on his utility belt, to which he explained each of the items and their use. They were most interested in the taser.”

The special visitors also got to see inside a patrol car and were able to activate the lights, she added.

“All were in agreement that was the only time that any of them wanted to be in the back seat of a patrol car. The biggest hit was seeing the inside of a holding cell.”
