Burglar Smashed Glass Door To Break Into Gas Station: Clearwater Police

A man was arrested for breaking into and stealing clothing, food and alcohol from a Clearwater gas station, police said.

CLEARWATER, FL — A homeless man was arrested Wednesday morning for burglarizing the Rebel gas station at 500 S. Fort Harrison Ave., Clearwater police wrote in a social media post.

Daniel Simpson, 41, was charged with burglary (smash and grab), according to his arrest affidavit.

An employee found the glass gas station door shattered and a man, later identified as Simpson, grabbing items inside the store just before 5 a.m., police said.

Items he stole from the store included shirts, hats, food and alcohol, the affidavit said,

Simpson ran from the area, but was quickly found by officers in the nearby area and arrested.

The burglary was caught on video surveillance footage.

It’s estimated that it will cost more than $1,000 to repair the broken door, police said.
