Election Day 2014: Governor, Medical Marijuana, Attorney General

Have you made your picks in Florida's most hotly contested statewide races?

Election season 2014 comes to an end Tuesday, but first Florida voters have to make some big decisions at the polls.

With two hotly contested races on the statewide ballot, along with three constitutional amendments, voters will get to decide the direction the Sunshine State takes over the next few years as they cast their ballots at the polls.

The race for the governor’s mansion remains quite close as both Republican Gov. Rick Scott and former Gov. Charlie Crist, a Democrat, look for ways to tip the scales in their favor. With an estimated $150 million being spent on this particular race between the two candidates combined, it’s reported to be the country’s costliest battle for governor.

While the governor’s race is close, the contest for the state’s Attorney General post has incumbent Republican Pam Bondi in the lead over Democrat contender George Sheldon. In its latest release, Public Policy Polling gives Bondi a 46 percent edge over Sheldon’s 37 percent.

Also on the ballot are three constitutional amendments, including a widely debated proposal to make medical marijuana legal in the state of Florida. While a majority of voters have said they’d like to see this pass, it remains unclear if the 60 percent required for a constitutional amendment to get a thumbs up will materialize.
