Officials see a huge chance to reshape the area as operations move elsewhere, while some Clearwater residents urge caution, worried about long-term control and the potential influence of Scientology-linked interests.
   

2. School bus rear-ended in fiery Clearwater crash, police say (fox13news.com) — A car slammed into the back of a school bus at Sunset Point Road and Highland Avenue in Clearwater on Thursday afternoon, causing the car to burst into flames. Police say only one student, the bus driver, and the car's driver were involved, and remarkably no one was injured. Investigators are still determining what caused the fiery collision.

Clearwater residents raise concerns over Scientologists filling City Council meeting (wtsp.com) — Clearwater residents are raising alarms that Scientology members are filling City Council chambers hours early, leaving many locals outside during key debates over street transfers and a proposed entertainment complex. City leaders say they'll rotate people in to speak, while grassroots groups like Save the Garden push to keep public access and influence over downtown decisions.
   

4. Kosowski cross-examines witnesses for first time as murder trial enters Day 4 in Pinellas County (tampabay28.com) — In a closely watched Clearwater murder trial, defendant Tomas Kosowski personally cross-examined forensic and cellphone experts for the first time as prosecutors detailed DNA, bloodstain and location evidence tied to attorney Steven Cozzi's killing. Jurors heard how phone records allegedly trace a route from Kosowski's Tarpon Springs home to a South Florida dumpster where investigators believe Cozzi's body was discarded, with testimony resuming Friday morning.
