CLEARWATER, FL — With the help of Ruth Eckerd Hall, The Salvation Army in Clearwater and Upper Pinellas County has now distributed more than 3,500 boxes of food to families in need.
“Ruth Eckerd’s venue has allowed us to serve more people efficiently and safely," said Maj. Ted Morris, administrator for The Salvation Army serving Upper Pinellas County. "Their staff as volunteers have been a godsend. We are so thankful to Susan (Crockett) and her team.”
The drive-thru distribution of the United States Department of Agriculture food boxes will continue Fridays, Aug. 21 and 28. However, the time has been changed to 1 to 3 p.m., or until all the boxes are distributed.

Boxes are preassembled and contain a protein (typically precooked chicken), milk, butter, cheese, fresh produce and fruit.
The partnership with Ruth Eckerd Hall began in June as a way to expand food distribution in the community. Morris said it has enabled The Salvation Army to feed more people in need who have become unemployed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
