Sheriff Mike Chitwood detailed how the chase began with a stop in downtown DeLand’s Artisan Alley and continued through city streets as the driver allegedly ran red lights. FDLE will review whether the deputy’s single shot was justified while the deputy remains off patrol.

Bicyclists airlifted after morning crash (beacononlinenews.com) — Several bicyclists remain hospitalized after a pickup crossed the centerline on East Voorhis Avenue in DeLand and hit a weekend riding group, intensifying concern about bike safety on local streets. A DeLand man faces a traffic charge, and another serious e-bike crash nearby the same weekend has city leaders calling for stronger education, enforcement, and resources to protect cyclists and pedestrians.

Worried about his dog, a DeLand patient finds unexpected help from hospital nurses (adventhealth.com) — A DeLand man hospitalized with pneumonia at AdventHealth DeLand nearly left early because he was terrified for his dog, Luna, who was home alone. Nurses stepped in, arranging and paying for a sitter so he could safely finish treatment. He’s now recovering back in DeLand with Luna, grateful for caregivers who treated his worries as seriously as his illness.

4. Cops Nab DeLand Driver In Daytona Bike Week Hit-and-Run That Left Two Hurt (hoodline.com) — DeLand police say they arrested a local woman last week in connection with a serious hit-and-run that injured two pedestrians during Daytona Beach Bike Week in March. Investigators tracked a damaged Jeep Cherokee back to DeLand, where they impounded it and took the driver into custody on felony charges. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact DeLand police.
