📰 News we're reading

1. What 9/11 commemorations are being held across Tampa Bay? (tampabay.com) — Dunedin will host a 9/11 memorial ceremony Friday at 8:40 a.m., featuring the Dunedin Fire Rescue Honor Guard, Dunedin Pipe Band, historical reflections, and special speakers to mark the attacks' 25th anniversary. The roundup also lists other Tampa Bay remembrance events, but Dunedin's gathering offers residents a meaningful way to honor victims and first responders close to home.

2. Tampa Bay parking fees are pricing out locals. How did they get so high? (tampabay.com) — Dunedin stands out in Tampa Bay by keeping downtown parking free in city lots and the Monroe Street Garage after residents pushed back against meters in 2017. City leaders say investing in walkability, streetscapes, and the Pinellas Trail matters more than maximizing parking revenue, even as nearby communities raise rates and debate new paid systems that frustrate locals and visitors.

3. Leon County students named as 'National Merit' semifinalists (miramarflnews.com) — A Dunedin homeschool student, William Harris, has been named a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist, placing him among the top-scoring high school seniors in the country. He joins more than 16,000 Florida and U.S. students now competing for thousands of college scholarships, highlighting strong academic achievement coming directly from the Dunedin community.

4. After missing almost a year, Phillies prospect Aidan Miller 'feels 100%,' and is just happy to be playing again (inquirer.com) — Dunedin native and Phillies top prospect Aidan Miller is finally back on the field after nearly a year sidelined by a back injury, and says he now feels fully healthy. While rehabbing in Florida, he leaned on nearby family and local fishing trips for mental breaks, and he's easing into games with Clearwater and Reading before an expected Arizona Fall League stint.
