The <a href="https://outshinefilm.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Spring Edition</a>presents its Men’s Latin Spotlight - the international premiere of An Island Away From You (A Una Isla Deti) (Spain, 2025), a romantic comedy, at 7 p.m. on April 25 at Silverspot Cinema – Downtown Miami. Harry is an uptight chef whose perfectly planned life implodes when he’s left at the altar. Desperate for a reset, he’s dragged by his best friend to her sunny homeland of Gran Canaria, where nothing goes according to plan—in the best way. Between beach days, bold flavors, and a cast of charming locals, Harry starts to loosen up and fall for the island itself. But the biggest surprise arrives in the form of his best friend’s handsome, charismatic father. What begins as a vacation turns into a flirtatious, heart-opening comedy of errors, forcing Harry to rethink love, age gaps, and happily-ever-afters.
In Spanish with English subtitles, the film runs 102 minutes.

The <a href="https://outshinefilm.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Spring Edition</a>presents the dramatic thriller Lone Star Bull (US/UK, 2025), its Men’s Spotlight Film, at 7:30 p.m., on May 1, at Paradigm Cinemas: Gateway Fort Lauderdale. An afterparty will follow the screening.
Lone Star Bull stars Luke Macfarlane, the Hallmark movie heartthrob and irresistibly hunky queer icon, as Bull Jackson, a former military veteran turned bouncer at a popular gay nightclub. When Coco, the club’s beloved owner and mentor, is gravely injured in a suspected hate crime, Bull teams up with Jordan (played by D.J. “Shangela” Pierce), a sharp-tongued drag queen and med student, to track down those responsible. Using his combat skills and fierce loyalty, Bull plunges into a dangerous underworld of prejudice and retribution, fighting to protect his chosen family and confront the ghosts of his past.
The film runs 90 minutes.

In her first starring role, pop icon Charli XCX stars as Bethany, a woman who abruptly derails a romantic vacation in Poland after suspecting her devoted boyfriend, Rob, is about to propose. Breaking from the carefully planned itinerary, Bethany reconnects with an old friend, Nel, and the two spark a quiet yet smoldering chemistry rooted in shared history, poetry, and unspoken desire. As Rob wanders Warsaw searching for answers, the trio confronts the fragile line between destiny and chance. An improvisational postcard romance, Erupcja uses volcanic imagery to mirror its characters’ repressed longings and emotional eruptions.
The film is in English and Polish and runs 71 minutes. It is preceded by two short films April (Spain, 2026) 7 mins. and How's Archie (Canada, 2026) 17 mins.

<a href="https://historyfortlauderdale.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">History Fort Lauderdale</a>, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will present “A Stitch in Time,” a vibrant quilt show pop-up in collaboration with local textile guilds. This free public exhibition series, launching on Sunday, May 3, in collaboration with the Quilt Guild by the Sea, will celebrate the artistry and tradition of quilting, bringing colorful stories to life through fabric and craftsmanship.
Quilt lovers and curious visitors alike are invited to enjoy these one-day-only pop-up displays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., coinciding with the City’s Riverwalk Jazz Brunch series. Quilts will be on display draped over the second-story balcony and showcased inside the New River Inn Museum, offering visitors a rich blend of craftsmanship and history.
History Fort Lauderdale is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. with docent guided tours daily at 1, 2, and 3 p.m. Group walking tours are available upon special request. Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is free for members, military and children ages six and under.
