• Fruitland Park police arrest barricaded shooting suspect after standoff, chief says (clickorlando.com) — Fruitland Park police say a man wearing body armor fired an AR-15-style rifle inside a Smith Street home early Wednesday, then barricaded himself while several other people were still inside. Officers evacuated six occupants and arrested the suspect without injuries, and felony charges are expected. The man was already out on bond in a separate drug trafficking case.
   

• Hearing set for ex-church leader accused of putting cameras in ladies' restroom (villages-news.com) — A Fruitland Park man accused of secretly recording women and girls in a church restroom is seeking permission to use the internet while free on bond. An Aug. 4 Lake County Court hearing will consider his request for limited online access for banking and job searches. He currently remains out on a $25,000 bond under strict no-internet conditions.
   

• New school and district grades are out. How did Lake and Sumter fare? (dailycommercial.com) — Lake County Schools again earned an overall A grade from the state, and that success includes the opening of the new Fruitland Park Elementary campus. District officials say more schools earned A’s this year, with strong middle and high school results, while Sumter County also maintained an A rating. Parents can dig into detailed school and test data through linked online databases.
