📰 News we're reading

• Updates From Oct. 6 Gulfport City Council Meeting (thegabber.com) — Gulfport's latest City Council meeting revisited the future of Flock license-plate cameras, which still operate under existing contracts despite a budget cut for next year. Council also officially named the former Lions Club waterfront site Tifton Landing and converted a vacant firefighter/EMT position to firefighter/paramedic, a move expected to save about $22,000 annually.

• Gulfport Weighs Grants, Loans for $85 Million Stormwater Need (thegabber.com) — Gulfport officials are wrestling with how to fund roughly $85 million in needed stormwater upgrades, after learning current fees would take about 170 years to cover the work. A consultant outlined grants, state loans, and possible use of Penny for Pinellas funds, but council delayed decisions on borrowing or raising rates. Residents can follow up at the Oct. 20 council meeting.

• Caso de asesinato sin resolver termina con varios sospechosos arrestados (wfla.com) — Among several regional video stories, one segment features a dramatic rescue of a struggling dog in Gulfport waters after a boater's own pet alerted him. Other clips cover an old homicide case finally yielding arrests, a Hillsborough school governance referendum debate, and major crashes and crime cases around Tampa Bay. Gulfport viewers may especially appreciate the local waterfront rescue story.
