ALX, a Berklee student artist from Jacksonville, Florida, will perform with his band at Essence Festival on Sunday, July 7, on the Golden Era Superlounge Stage. Essence Festival is headlined this year by Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, and Michelle Obama.

ALX is a singer-songwriter whose creative lyricism, intricate beats, and influences – such as Trey Songz, Big Sean, Eric Bellinger, Omarion, and Ty Dolla $ign – are reflected in his music.“I used to be that nerdy kid that would spend his weekends watching Dragon Ball Z,” said ALX. “Now I'm that nerdy kid that spends his weekends watching Dragon Ball Z and making music.” He began following his passion at 14 and has since opened for T.I. and ELHAE.

The major festival gig comes through Berklee’s Popular Music Institute (BPMI), which gives artists performance experience and prepares them for the evolving music landscape. Students also gain experience at each festival handling on-site promotion, production and tour management. Essence Festival is one of six festivals BPMI artists are appearing at this summer. Others include Lollapalooza and The Governors Ball. More info below.
