Betty Griffin Center Announces Events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

‘A Day Without Violence’ Art Show at the Crisp Ellert Art Museum and an ‘Out of Darkness Walk’ at Francis Field on Oct. 25 are among several events taking place during Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) in October.
“Designated by Congress in 1989, Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a time to honor survivors, remember those lost to domestic violence and educate the public on recognizing and preventing partner abuse,” said Betty Griffin Center CEO Kelly Franklin. “We encourage our supporters to take part in one or several of the events planned in St. Johns County this month.”
Events scheduled include:
·City of St. Augustine Proclamation, 75 King St., St. Augustine: 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12
·School Board Proclamation & ‘A Day Without Violence Calendar” Student Winner Award Ceremony, 40 Orange Street, St. Augustine: 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13
·Telling Amy’s Story, Water Works Theatre, 184 San Marco Ave., St. Augustine: 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14
·St. Johns County Proclamation, 500 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine: 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20
·South State Truck or Treat, 1740 State Road 207, St. Augustine: 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24
·‘Out of Darkness Walk,’ 25 W Castillo Dr., St. Augustine: 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25
Throughout the month, there will be a DVAM Purple Flag Displays at Freedom Church, located at State Road 207 North, and at the St. Johns County Health Department, located at 200 San Sebastian View – both in St. Augustine.
Also, the award -winning artwork and poetry created by St. Johns County Students for the “A Day Without Violence” Calendar contest is being displayed at the Crisp Ellert Art Museum, located at 48 Sevilla St. on the Flagler College Campus.

The Betty Griffin Center was founded in 1990 by concerned citizens and incorporated as the Safety Shelter of St. Johns County to develop plans to provide shelter for local victims of domestic violence and their children.
