“We are encouraged by the caliber of candidates that stepped forward for this special election,” JAXBIZ Board Chair Abel Harding said. “After discussions with candidates, we determined that Nick Howland’s priorities, which include developing an educated workforce, attracting and retaining quality jobs and a commitment to strengthening our economy best align with the goals of JAXBIZ. We believe he will represent our city well.”

Howland is a U.S. Navy veteran and now serves as executive director of Fire Watch, Northeast Florida’s fight to end veteran suicide. He was an executive in the defense industry for more than 20 years and lives in Jacksonville with his wife and two sons.
The first election is scheduled for December 7. If none of the four candidates receive more than 50 percent of the vote, a general election will be held on February 22, 2022.
